’60s

Dr. James A. Young (MA ’66) had an article published in the 2018 edition of the Pennsylvania Labor History Society Journal, “And They Rose…Again and Again.” The article concerned labor-management strife in late 19th century America. Young also published “Looking to History for Labor’s Future,” in the fall 2018 edition of Democratic Left Online. He also presented “Progressive Labor in Pennsylvania: The PA Social Services Union, 1970-1995,” at the North American Labor History Conference in Detroit in October 2018.

’70s

Hon. Kevin H. Taylor (Law ’77) was appointed to serve as chair of the Ohio State Bar Association Ethics Committee. Taylor serves on the bench of the Van Wert County Probate Court.

Terry McNally (A/S ’77) retired after 25 years as the court executive officer and jury commissioner for Superior Court, County of Kern, in central California.

James R Carnes (Law ’98) was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in North America. He is a co-administrator of the law firm Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP in Toledo.

Nicolas A. Linares (HSHS ’09, Law ’12) joined the Toledo office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP as an associate attorney. He focuses his practice in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration, business succession planning, tax planning, guardianships and elder law.

Dr. Jordan Maddocks (Pharm ’11, Honors ’11, PharmD ’13, Honors ’13) was promoted to director of clinical outcomes and services at EnvisionPharmacies, located in North Canton, Ohio. In this role, he will lead all clinical activities for a specialty pharmacy that serves patients in all 50 states, plus Puerto Rico and Guam. Maddocks and his wife, Carly, welcomed their first-born child, Selah, on Sept. 2, 2018.
Births and Marriages

Dr. Bethany Rohr (MED ’14) and Dr. Trevor Teetor (MED ’14) are engaged to be married on Oct. 5 at a private residence in Millersburg, Ohio. Bethany is a board-certified dermatologist and a dermatopathology fellow at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa., and Trevor is pursuing a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery upon residency completion.

Erica Dodge (HSHS ’13) and Malcolm Ford were united in marriage on July 7, 2018 at St. Patrick Church in Hubbard, Ohio. Their reception was held at Drake’s Landing in Canfield. Erica is a physician extender at Premier Orthopaedics in Philadelphia, and Malcolm is a finance and accounting recruiter for Kforce in Philadelphia.

**Dr. Norman Blume, Toledo, 91.

Annie P. Davis-Watson, Toledo, 91. She was a custodial worker at MCO from 1978 until her retirement in 1990.

Dr. Dean L. Meinke, Newport, Mich., 85. He joined the UT faculty as an associate professor in 1968 and was promoted to professor in 1972. Over the years, he served as chair of the Department of Educational Psychology several times. The native of Wisconsin was a licensed psychologist in Ohio.

Ilana J. Iwens Kennell, Bowling Green, Ohio, 66. She taught piano in the Department of Music from 1990 until her retirement in 2010. She was named the Northwest Ohio Teacher of the Year by the Ohio Music Teachers Association, which two years later, along with the Music Teachers National Association, recognized her as a Nationally Certified College Teacher of the Year. The Milwaukee native recorded contemporary chamber music with the Access and Orion Labels, and she performed on National Public Radio.

Julie A. (James) Murden), Toledo, 70. She worked at MCO as a heart transplant administrator and data control technician from 1988 until her retirement in 2001.

Sharon M. (Schon) Spencer, Toledo, 72. She was a secretary at the University from 1997 until her retirement in 2010.

Maria H. Contreras (MA ’07), Toledo, 57. She taught Spanish from 2008 until May 2018 at the University.

**Dr. Reemt Baumann, Toledo, 90. He joined the faculty in the College of Education in 1966 and specialized in statistics, measurement and research procedures. Baumann was promoted to professor in 1973. He served as chair of the department from 1971 to 1976 and as director of the Division of Educational Foundations from 1976 to 1980. In 1977, he received one of UT’s Outstanding Teacher Awards. Baumann also served on the Faculty Senate and the Graduate Council. The Milwaukee native retired from the University in 1997.

**Penelope Drain, Haskins, Ohio, 75. She worked at MCO as an administrative assistant to the president from 1971 until her retirement in 2004.

Robin M. Kennedy, Toledo, 73. He joined the College of Law faculty in 1973 as a visiting assistant professor and director of the Mental Health Law Clinic. He was promoted to assistant professor and then to associate professor in 1977. Kennedy received tenure in 1979. He specialized in clinical legal education and taught family law and administrative law. In 2013, he retired and received the emeritus designation. He continued to teach part time until his death.

Rita E. (Pratt) Neyhart (NRS, ’92, MNRS ’97), Perrysburg, Ohio, 75. She was a nurse at MCO for more than two decades until her retirement.

**Retired Lt. Col. Thomas J. Orlowski (Ed ’65), Smithfield, Va., 76. In 2017, the University dedicated the Lt. Col. Thomas J. Orlowski ’65 Veterans Lounge in the renovated William S. Carlson Library. A $20,000 donation from the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes in Orlowski’s honor supported the creation of the lounge. Orlowski was a middle linebacker for the football team. After graduation, he joined the army. His 20-year military career included assignments in the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam, 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized), HQ U.S. Army Europe, HQ U.S. Continental Army Command and the Office of the Adjutant General of the Army. For his service in Vietnam, Orlowski was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star for Valor with two Oak Leaf Clusters and an Air Medal, according to the coalition.

D. Meredith Allsop (A/S ’52, Law ’77), Toledo, 88. She was an editorial assistant and account clerk in the Law Review Department in the College of Law from 1971 to 1975.
