’80s

Jerry Michalkiewicz (Bus ’83) was promoted from senior accountant to manager in the accounting firm UHY LLP, located in Sterling Heights, Mich. UHY is a licensed CPA firm providing advisory services to its clients.

**Laurie L. Adams (Eng ’86) was selected as the 2019 Engineer of the Year by the Toledo Society of Professional Engineers. The award is given to a local engineer for commitment and achievements in the engineering profession and community. Adams is a managing partner at DGL Consulting Engineers, a civil engineering firm located in Maumee, Ohio.
’90s

*Sean Moriarty (Bus ’96) opened Revenue Management Systems Inc., a software development office, in Waterville, Ohio. This office serves clientele in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Revenue Management Systems is a Seattle-based company with a focus on airline, rail and cargo revenue management software.

**Dr. David Dobrzykowski (Bus ’95, MBA ’99, PhD ’10) accepted the position of associate professor of supply chain management with tenure in the Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville. He is currently an associate professor with tenure in the department of management at Bowling Green State University, where he also serves as director of the Supply Chain Management Institute. Dobrzykowski was the president of the UToledo Alumni Association from 2013 to 2014.

Dr. William Mars (MEng ’99, PhD ’01) is the founder and president of Endurica LLC, a company that focuses on applications in automotive light weighting and consumer electronics. Michigan State University recently announced a collaboration with Endurica, Bosch and the Department of Energy to develop durability evaluation methods for adhesive joints. The company serves customers in industry sectors, including defense, transportation, heavy equipment, offshore, medical devices and consumer products.

Adam M. Galat (Law ’06) was elected as partner of the law firm Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, in their Toledo office. He is a health law attorney with the firm.
Amber Johnson (BUS ’08) joined Systems Evolution, Inc. in opening its 9th Street office in Miami, Fla. Systems Evolution is a boutique business and technology consulting firm, focused on delivering superior value to local clients.

*Erica Cheslock (Bus ’02) was named the director of donor relations of Soroptimist International of the Americas, Inc. In this position, she will develop and manage the major gifts program to support the Soroptimist Dream Programs. Soroptimist, headquartered in Philadelphia, improves the lives of women and girls through the work of volunteers in 21 countries and territories.

*Spencer Ray (Bus ’16) was promoted from staff accountant to senior staff account in the accounting firm UHY LLP, located in Sterling Heights, Mich. UHY is a licensed CPA firm that provides advisory services to its clients.

*Yousseff Georges Jabaly (NSM ’16) was featured in an American University of Antigua College of Medicine blog about how growing up in Syria impacted his journey into the field of medicine. Jabaly is a fourth-year medical student at the American University of Antigua.
In Memoriam

Faculty, staff and friends

Dr. Mary Girgis-Hanna (PhD ’97), Toledo, 83. She taught sociology courses from 1997 to 2000.

**Doris L. (Sing) Hedler (Ed ’40, MEd ’76), Toledo, 100. She was an academic advisor in University College and a director of the Institutional Health Care Management Program, which she helped launch. Hedler was an advocate for the establishment of the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women and served as an interim coordinator at the center.

Gregory L. Kreps, Maumee, Ohio, 70. He was a respiratory therapist at MCO/MUO/UTMC from 1974 until his retirement in 2008.

Dr. Robert F. Baugh, Lambertville, Mich., 87. He was a community-based faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine at MCO from 1985 until the mid-1990s.

Mary Jane Stanish, Portland, Conn., 88. She was a volunteer with the Satellites Auxiliary.

Dr. Jack Araj, Sautee Nacoochee, Ga., 96. He was appointed chief of radiology at Maumee Valley Hospital and was named an associate professor at MCO. Araj helped organize the Radiology Department and its research.

James Richard Hays (MEd ’60), Sylvania, Ohio, 89. He was a three-year starter at running back and defensive back from 1948 to 1950. Hays was voted the team’s MVP in 1950 when he rushed for 572 yards, caught 11 passes and made five interceptions on defense. His record for average yards per carry for a season, 7.73 on 74 carries in 1950, stood for 64 years until it was broken in 2014. The Toledo native, who lettered in track and field in 1949, was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game. In 1951, he served as the assistant freshman football coach. Hays was also the interim coach of the women’s cross country team in 1984. He returned to UT as an assistant to the athletic director from 1984 to 1988.

Cynthia T. (James) Hernandez, Toledo, 66. She was a custodial worker at MCO/MUO/UTMC from 2005 to 2009.

Dr. Larry W. Krill, Sylvania, Ohio, 56. He was an associate professor of internal medicine from 2007 to 2013. He also served as a clinical associate professor of internal medicine at MCO/MUO/UTMC from 1994 to 2007 and from 2013 to 2019.

Edith G. Williams, Toledo, 92. She worked at Maumee Valley Hospital from 1951 to 1952, was rehired in 1957, and worked at MCO until her retirement in 1986.

**Rose Marie (Reuss) Thomson (Pharm ’50), Maumee, Ohio, 90. She was one of only four women to graduate from the UToledo College of Pharmacy in 1950. Thomson worked for more than 50 years at Toledo-area pharmacies, such as Westhaven and Churchill’s. She and her late husband, Louis M. Thomson, Jr. (A/S ’50) endowed the Rose Marie Reuss Thomson Pharmacy Scholarship Fund in 1999, which has helped dozens of pharmacy students pursue their dreams. “The College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences feels the weight of the loss of this distinguished member of our pharmacy family,” interim dean of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Amanda Bryant-Friedrich said.  “Her engagement over the years with the college contributed greatly to the success of our programs and our students.  Members of the faculty remember her as a ‘force to be reckoned with’ and a trailblazer among women within the discipline. We are all thankful that she valued us as much as we valued her.”
